A Little Confession

I know it's silly but...

I think I might have a crush on my dentist.

Not a big deal.

Really.

He's just extremely knowledgeable, that's all.

And he happens to be tall,

with beautiful skin

and caramel colored eyes.

We have an understanding.

Dr.: "Alrighty, Rebekah--let's take a look at those teeth."
Me: "Okay."
Dr.: "Any complaints?"
Me: "Huh?"
Dr.: "With your teeth..."
Me: "Oh" (giggles) "No, they're fine."
Dr.: "Looks like you're a regular flosser. That's great. I love to see that."
Me: "Yeah. I--" (chokes on her spit)
Dr.: "Don't be shy about using the suction tool. Just nod when you need to close your mouth, okay?"
Me: "Okay."
Dr.: "I just need to poke around a bit."
Me: "Poke a look."
Dr.: "What was that?"
Me: "That's something me and my friends say.
Dr.: "I see."
Me: Poke a look. It's like sneak a peek. I used to say it on accident all the time."
Dr.: "MmHm..."
Me: "I say it on purpose now" (shrugs)
Dr.: "You need to spit?"
Me: "Huh? Oh, no. I had an itch on my shoulder."
Dr.: "Alrighty then," (leans back in his chair) "I think you're all set."
Me: "Really? That was fast."
Dr.: "Well, I guess it doesn't take that long to 'poke a look.'"
Me: (blushes)
Dr.: (radiates masculinity)

To be honest, it would never work.

He knows too much about my past.

But I'll continue my flossing habits.

In his honor, of course.

HypnoBaby

Friday mornings at work are pretty slow.
My friend, Ale, was the only other person in the building with me today. She's pregnant with her first baby. At about 10:30am I heard her suddenly push away from her desk and sigh.

"Bekah. Come here a second."

I stood up from my desk and walked toward her computer. She pointed at the swivel chair beside her.

"Sit down," she said. "We're gonna practice giving birth."
"Okay." I scratched my arm and sat down.
She pulled out her laptop and set it on the desk in front of us.
"What's that for?" I asked.
"To hypnotize us."
"I thought we were giving birth?"
"We are." She pulled out a CD from her bag. "I got these HypnoBaby CDs from my friend. They help woman with natural births, without medication. It's called Hypno-anesthesia. You basically give birth while you're sleeping."
"Ale."
"What?"
"That's weird."
"It's not! Look, just wait, okay?" She put the CD into the computer. After a few seconds we could hear the soft stirring of chimes and the rush of ocean waves.

"Welcome to HypnoBaby, where you can enjoy your baby's birth in comfort, joy and love... "

"Bekah!"
"What?"
"Stop smiling."
"Okay."
"Now close your eyes. "

I closed my eyes and rested my hands in my lap. I took a couple deeps breaths.

"This is a safe place for you and your baby. Here you will learn valuable skills that will help you secure inner peace and control in one of the most beautiful experiences of your life.

Open your mind to the possibility of hypnotic peace and contentment.
Breathe from the deepest place in your core.
Let the warmth and security of your own body lull your soul. Lull your mind.
Let the tension in your shoulders, your back, drain from your fingers.
Let the warmth of your skin fill the whole room, to surround you with your own heat, your own energy...breathe from your core....breathe the warmth of your own body...

....breathe...breathe...breathe...breathe...

"Bekah."
I jumped and grabbed the desk in front of me. "What?"
"You were sleeping."
I shook my head. "I wasn't.
"You were."
"I remember every word."
"You were all slumped."
"I have weak back muscles."
She closed her laptop. "Whatever you say."
I stood up shakily, blinked, and started walking down the hall.
"Where are you going?" she asked.
"I have to go to the bathroom all of a sudden."
"Ha!" She stood up from her chair and pounded her fist on the desk. "It totally works!

I've been lulled asleep by my own energy.

Man, do I have good juju or what!
